My love for traditional Indian Costumes bought me to Lokrang; an annual event which happens every year in the heart of Jaipur, Rajasthan. The event was culturally rich and  a rare sight to see artists, dancers & musicians from all over India on one platform. 

I call this photo series ‘Fashion’ as it’s a world full of people dressed differently and the styles are very eccentric. It’s a world where I see men & women in make-up, headgear, colourful outfits and elaborate looks. I find lot of styling and design inspiration from these traditional costumes.

I’ve always found backstage fashion pictures fascinating; the idea for this series came from there. Shooting backstage not only gave me an opportunity to capture the artists but also to interact with them, though it was quite difficult to brief them about this series due to our language barrier (most didn’t speak Hindi or English, only speaking local languages) we somehow managed. Being a Fashion stylist & a style blogger I always look for inspiration for my shoots more from traditional costumes or rural people of India rather than browsing fashion magazines. I believe original style comes from these people and what was more interesting was to see a world which is no less than a fashion show; men donning lipstick, headgear & even in florals. I also find lot of inspiration for hair and make-up from the women and men in the traditional costumes.

My series in divided into two parts, one focuses into the full length costumes (mostly shot with two people dressed alike) and other focuses on faces, expressions and details.
